Spacious Figure
"Arborlith" is an extension of the tree theme begun in "A Tree's Tree". In this case, trees I saw on the island of Aruba inspired the undulating forms. These trees assumed dramatic configurations by the constant winds that shaped them.
A great rock sits in the tree, yet out of that rock a living tree grows.
All of this speaks of the interrelationships of rocks and trees that grow in my native
state of Arizona. Rocks hold the moisture and minerals that enrich the tree and help to sustain it in real life. So, too, in this work of art, the bronze and rock sustain real trees.
